Cypress Log Homes
PO Box 128
Edwardsville AL 36261

We are a manufacturer of custom logs and log home building materials with a strong emphasis on all things cypress. We offer cypress log siding, cypress t&g, cypress paneling and cypress lumber. We also offer pine, cedar, and douglas fir logs for those who desire them, though we don't recommend anything but cypress..

We have built new storage, drying and manufacturing facilities at 9000 Highway 78 Heflin AL, close to the small community of Edwardsville AL. We are about 65 miles from Atlanta GA and about 75 miles from Birmingham AL not far from Interstate 20, but safe, at least for now, from the raging hords.. We sell log home building materials along with advice on construction, mortgage, and plans. We offer free, 2 day on-site assistance with every log wall package that we sell within 200 miles (has been known to be more for those clients who are very politically incorrect) of our plant and have more complete assistance available at an extra cost. We offer a reasonable amount of phone help after that. We have shipped materials to the Northeast and West of the Mississippi. To the people far away to whom we are unable to offer on-site or extended phone help, we offer artificially dried cypress logs and log wall systems, that are unavailable almost anywhere else. We dry and run our logs in 10-15 trailer load quantities, with an emphasis on low moisture content and high quality. We will ship anywhere in the Continental US by truck and would be willing to ship overseas via container.

We offer quality tidewater-red cypress for its more dense, higher concentrations of cypressine, extended life and superior looks. We also offer custom log patterns, that is we can make the shape and size that you desire even if it is different from anything else that we now offer.

For those of you who want high quality, dry, cypress logs, we urge you to come visit us and see if we are the company for which you are looking. We are what we desire to be, a small, family owned and operated company, not striving to be the biggest but to offer the highest quality materials and personal service to those people who come to us. If you like dealing with the owner, then give us a call. We DO NOT have a large staff of trained sales people waiting for your call, but we will get back to you in a knowledgeable, honest way. All the Indians on this reservation work and therefore work, so if you call and get a message, please leave one and we will get back with you, usually in the evenings.

Cost of Materials Packages and/or Completed Homes

How much does a house cost? That is like asking how much does a car cost? Is it a Beamer or a Yugo? Does it have a standard 4 cylinder or the lick-overhead-jam five engine with a turbo-charged cigarette lighter, oversized floor mats, and cut-down door handles. Prices of houses are like Oprah's weight. They vary as a function of time, size,  equipment, and the mood of the Federal Reserve. So, with that said, here we go with some numbers that will mean absolutely nothing to most people. (If you are not confused enough by reading this, then call and I will confuse you some more)

We do not include plywood, 2x4’s, windows, doors, treated lumber, hardware and other non-log home related materials in our packages. There are things that are not included in most anybody’s log home package and you will need to buy those things from a local builder’s supply or specialty supply house. We offer custom packages and as such every one we sell is the first time that we have sold materials for that particular package. We feel that buying the non-log home specific materials locally will be more accurate, cost effective, and convenient for you. It will allow you to make any changes that you desire at the time of construction and order just the material that you desire. You may also pick out windows, doors, and hardware that suits your particular taste and the depth and breadth of your pocketbook.

The cost of a materials package varies widely as to what you decide to put into it. Remember, what we offer is totally custom and as far as I can remember, we have not sold the same package to two different people in the last 5 years. For instance, some people get a cypress log wall system only, while others get full post and beam roof systems and all cypress paneling for interior walls. An example is listed below.

Larger homes tend to be more expensive than smaller ones of course, but cheaper PER SQUARE FOOT because some of your costs stay the same, as driveway, gravel, pipe, water. Log homes with stick built or truss type roofs are not much more expensive than stick built homes and in fact are about the same price as stick built IF YOU HAVE A GREAT ROOM WITH BEAMS AND T&G in the ceiling. Said another way, building log walls does not drive up the price of a house as much as a post and beam (timber frame) type roof with timbers and t&g.

Remember, log homes are NOT cheaper to build than stick-built homes. You have approximately four times the wood in a log home as is in a stick built home. In fact most of the wall in a stick built home consists of air, at least that is true here in the Southeastern US.

Remember, homes are just like cars that don’t move, only different. Speed and luxury = $. Go fast, go in style, yo money lasts a little while. Not so comfy and a little slower, wallet stays thicker, more.

Turn Key prices vary greatly from one area to another. (A turn-key price is where you have a builder do all the work from start to finish and when it is ready to move in, he hands you the key) Here in the Atlanta GA - Birmingham AL area, turn-keys tend to run from 60$-$90 per square foot. We have seen a great majority (1997-1998) of homes built for around 70$-$80 per square foot. This generally includes grading, driveway, gravel, pipe, heating and AC, water hook up or well, and septic. Don’t fall into the trap of a low price that includes only the house. You will have to buy the other one way or another. We have also seen houses go for 90$ to 150$ + up /SF with lots of beautiful, expensive options, like stacked rock fireplaces, other custom rock work, lots of custom woodworking, all wood floors, fancy countertops, timbered stairs and hand rails, hot and cold running towels and laser-guided, antique-looking bidets. Did I forget to mention the log-sided big screen TV’s and the tongue in the groove DVD players?

Here in the Southeast, many people can work on their own home and save money. We have seen very nice all wood homes done by individuals for as low as 50$ / SF and lower. It ought to be that way everywhere, but we realize that some places do not allow their citizens the freedom to construct their own homes. Somebody might make a mistake, oh heaven forbid!! I bet they can even do that in Russia now! I can just hear the Pilgrims rolling in their own graves as they learn that Americans cannot work in their own homes without a license. Makes you wonder when already gravitationally enhanced BIG BROTHER is going to blow up or just take total control. I wonder if I could go on vacation some if that happened? Since I am off on a rant, our old mill which was built in the 1940’s and weighs 25,000 pounds has a green start button and a red stop button. Nowadays the new equipment has a red start button and a green stop button. It says tons about what we have become. Political correctness and rights protection won’t let us do any risking whatsoever. The American way used to be fire, ready, aim. Now it is ready, aim, recheck the aim, check the safety of the area, recheck the safety of the area, call your neighbor just to be sure that he doesn’t mind you aiming, check with 256.5 government agencies to be sure the aim is all right with them, go to sleep while waiting on hold during the 8th round of call transfers, wake up to discover you need to go through the whole process again. I wonder when it will become too dangerous to even mill logs on account of splinters in our hands? We best leave that for another day. Never let my scatterbrained self get started on that! Oh, what the heck. All those interested in more freedom, smaller government and lower taxes, click here.[LP Logo] If not then make checks payable to IRS with a smile!

Log homes are a little more expensive than stick built, but if one is in your dreams, then give us a call. We do offer pine logs at lower prices, and cedar currently at higher ones, but only recommend cypress for it’s beauty and durability. It just outperforms nearly every other wood especially at lower maintenance levels. Just one slip-up as far as maintenance with pine and you could be in for monstrous repair bills, while cypress will enable you to nap at least some at the wheel of maintenance. Speaking of naps, nobody sits on the front porch or takes naps anymore. No wonder we’re all so ill. (See section on durability)
