4. Linear Shrinkage:
  Cypress will shrink linearly, or lengthwise, a small amount and it seems to do so more than kiln-dried pine. It is not a major problem, but you will find a few logs in your house that will get shorter by a very small amount when they dry. We recommend a bolt within 4" of any butt joint to reduce this. Again, dryer logs reduce this problem.
